Michael Konrad

Michael Konrad is used to working with materials typically found in the construction and demolition waste stream. His past works include well-crafted objects with a close attention to materiality; like his Tyvek sleeping bags and bunkers constructed out of pallets and traffic cones. For Michael, the real challenge at RAIR was deciding how approach the variety of materials. In 2011, he made several visits, collected many different materials, and made a slew of preliminary sketches. However, all of the prep work became of little use to him. Once he began working in the yard, he found that the process lent itself to a more impulsive way of building.
